A number of people have adopted the Cloth Bag as a fashion accessory, and potentially to take the higher ground on helping to save the planet. Whatever reason, each person adopting a non-plastic bag is doing their bit to reduce waste and pollution.
The problem is that a lot of the so-called Eco Bags are not designed to last, wear out, tear or do not have a large carrying capacity, and cannot be folded away easily. Have you tried going to the supermarket and putting your shopping into 6-8 Eco Bags? Eco Bags are currently succeeding in the casual shop market, where one bag is sufficient to carry ad-hoc purchases.
Some manufacturers have come up with large container-type bags that take up half of the trolley, but these are not quite suited to those shoppers that don’t go to the gym and pump iron. So we have opposite ends of the spectrum, single Eco Bags that are not suitable for bulk shopping, and large reusable bags that need careful handling when full.
The plastic bag issue cannot be ignored, we see discarded bags in the streets, on landfill, but also in the sea, just go on a cruise in the Med and see the waste floating about! So, we at FootPrint Bag do believe action to eradicate the plastic bag should be taken as there are now real alternatives. Reusable bags can by stylish, robust, practical and multiuse, so let’s hear it for the reusable bag … it’s now evolved.
