Footprintbag was formed by two driven women who care for the environment. The inspiration for the business stemmed from the move of nearby Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire, to become plastic bag free. This achieved nationwide publicity and sparked the beginning of an idea.
Claire graduated from Warwick University with a BA (Hons) QTS in English and Art. Following this, she moved to London and worked for the design company The Da Vinci Studio. After completing an intensive periodical journalism course at The London College of Printing some time was spent freelancing on media and PR assignments. Working for companies such as British Airways has given Claire experience of working for a well respected global company and has enabled her to come into contact with a diverse cross section of people and cultures. It has also made her very aware of the different ways people live across the world and the similar problems which are faced globally. The plastic bag/environment issue being one of the universal ones!
Hanny graduated in Germany and started one of the most sought after apprenticeships at Grey Worldwide GmbH& Co.KG. Grey is one of the leading full service advertising companies in the world. Whilst there, she gained valuable experience in the marketing, bookkeeping, print productions, creation, and event organization departments. Her role as an account manager was varied and demanding. Working in the TV department, she controlled the budgets, prepared, organized and executed national and international TV film and radio productions. The varied client list included GlaxoSmithKline (Dr.Best Toothbrush, Odol/ Toothpaste), P&G Europe (Pringles), Eurocos (Laura Biagiotti, Hugo Boss), Blanchet vine, E-on etc. After moving to England in 2004 she initially concentrated on bringing up her young family whilst freelancing as a bookkeeper. Then in 2007 formed FootprintBag Ltd. with her business partner Claire.
"We are both aware of the obvious need to find an alternative to harmful disposable plastic bags. As two environmentally-aware young mums, we were already taking reusable bags for our weekly supermarket shop. However, we were frustrated by the lack of choice on the market and car boots full of various bulky reusable bags.
So after many interesting drawing and designing sessions, the shopping bag pack was born! We hope you like it as much as we do. We always welcome your comments."
